An excellent example of Afghan architecture, the Qutub Minar is actually a 72.5 m high victory tower.  Started in the final year of the 12th century by Kutub-ud-din Aibak, it was later completed by his successors.  It has been given World Heritage Site status.

After ruling from Agra for 11 years, the Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan, shifted to Delhi and laid the foundation stone of the Red Fort in 1618.  So called because of the red stone of which it is built, the Red Fort is one of the most magnificent palaces in the world.

The 42 m high India Gate commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting during World War I.  The memorial bears the names of 13,516 British and Indian soldiers killed in the Afghan war of 1919.  India Gate was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1931.  Built from sandstone, the arch also houses the Eternal Flame, a gesture in memory of the Indian soldiers who laid down their lives in the 1971 war with Pakistan.

Situated in the heart of Delhi, the unique Dilli Haat is an upgraded version of the traditional weekly market, offering a delightful amalgam of crafts, food and cultural activities that are intrinsic to each part of the country.

Only a few hours away by road are the historic wonders of the Taj Mahal at Agra and the Pink City at Jaipur.
